HEALTHY EATING POLICY

Inspectors are looking for reference to how children have eaten and the portion sizes. while this may be in your policy if you are full day care (where food is prepared) they are recommending it is also included in sessional policies

Your policy should state that parents have been given information about what kind of food to supply for their children in their lunch boxes

It should mention that as well as being given safety and nutrition guidance with regard to healthy lunches that the portion sizes are appropriate and meet the needs of children

It is is appropriate for staff to be aware whether children are being sent in with too much / too little / inappropriate food and your policy should state this.

If the lunch box is sent home with uneaten food daily, parents can see what was eaten/uneaten. The policy should state that uneaten food is sent home with children and therefore parents are aware of what their child has eaten.
