The following tips may assist in dealing with problems when they are just a molehill!
1. Identify the issue.
a. Sometimes just having a frank conversation may resolve issues that relate to minor problems such as attitude or tone of voice that is unacceptable from an employee.
2. Coaching an employee requires either the manager or another person working on a one-to-one basis to assist in overcoming the areas that they are not reaching the required standards of performance
3. Constructive feedback and solutions for improving the performance should be outlined to the employee.
a. This type of approach requires an investment of time but it can assist in dealing with issues that are not acceptable regarding the employee’s behaviour
This type of approach shows a clear indication of support to the employee before and should be documented and recorded. Failing this approach the employer, if necessary and no change has been effected could consider using more formal policies and procedures.
