Under the new Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016 it specifies exactly what information you should share with parents as follows. Regulation 17 and 10 apply.

  • The name, position, qualifications and experience of staff, management contractor and unpaid worker ( e.g. students)
  • The Class of service: the type as defined in the regulations (sessional? full day care?)
  • Details of adult/child ratios
  • The Type of Care Programme you offer
  • The facilities available (Rooms, outdoor space etc)
  • The opening hours and fees

The policies & procedures (there are certain ones you have to provide)

The following policies should be shared with parents as outlined in Schedule 5 of the Regulations

  • Statement of Purpose and Function
  • Complaints
  • Administration of Medication
  • Infection Control
  • Managing Behaviour [Supporting Positive Behaviour]
  • Safe Sleep
  • Fire Safety
  • Inclusion
  • Outings [where children attending the service are brought on outings]
  • Accidents and Incidents
  • Authorisation to collect Children
  • Healthy Eating
  • Outdoor Play [where such play is provided to children attending the service]
  • Overnight Services [where the service is an overnight preschool service]
  • Staff Absences
  • Internet, Photographic and Recording Devices Use
  • Recruitment
  • Risk Management
  • Settling-in
  • Staff Training
  • Supervision

One the best ways to share the above information is by developing a Parent Handbook that can be emailed or shared in hard copy.
